Taxes, charges, licensing fees and rents reduced by Limassol Municipality
Based on the decrees of the Minister of Health, the Municipality of Limassol has decided at a recent meeting of the Municipal Council to proceed to the following fee reductions for companies that have been forced to suspend their operations due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
A. Refuse Tax (with the exception of residential premises to which the same charge will be imposed as in the previous year), fees related to licenses for the use of premises for business activity (Business Premises Licenses) and Catering and Entertainment Establishments Licenses (Article 112).
The reductions concern companies and business premises, as shown in detail in the explanatory table below, which were forced to suspend their operations based on the decrees of the Minister of Health.
The affected companies are called upon to file an objection in a timely manner and prior to the expiration date indicated on the relevant invoices sent by the Municipality of Limassol. Any objections must be submitted to the Municipality of Limassol and accompanied by all necessary supporting documents as explained below in order to be examined by the competent Committee.

B. Rights (rents) to use business premises owned by the Municipality
Reductions in rent will be calculated based on the days that each affected company has suspended its operation and will reach up to 50% for the period corresponding to the days during which the business was closed, based on the Decree of the Minister of Health, given that the affected company will pay the reduced rents/ rights to use the premises within 30 days from the date of approval of the reduction.
All objections must be accompanied by all necessary supporting documents which must be submitted by 15 July 2020 in order to be examined by the competent Service of the Municipality.
C. Sidewalk/ open area dining permits
No charge will be imposed for the period during which the affected companies were forced to suspend their operations, namely between 16.3.2020 and 20.5.2020.
For the period starting from 21.5.2020, during which the affected companies could operate and for as long as they are obliged to have a sparse seating arrangement, a reduction of 40% will be imposed on the charge per square meter granted for use (based on the agreement of the Municipality with the company). It is clarified that any temporary concession of additional space will also be charged with a reduction of 40% on the original agreement).
The supporting documents required for the examination of all the above reductions are:
1. Certificate from an approved Accountant/ Auditor confirming the period during which the specific establishment was closed, as well as its use by virtue of the decree.
2. Certificate from the relevant professional association regarding the use of the establishment (where applicable)
3. Certificate of Social Insurance/ Financial aid application/ Approval of grant aid due to suspension of operations
4. Additional clarifications as deemed necessary by the Municipality.
