Actions speak louder than words! Flood prevention works begin
The contract for the construction of flood prevention works in the greater City of Limassol was signed today in Panos Solomonides Cultural Centre in Limassol.
The Contract, worth 16.2 million Euros (plus VAT), is financed by the Limassol – Amathus Sewerage Board and the Government of Cyprus and was awarded to the IACOVOU - ZEMCO (SL) JOINT VENTURE Consortium.
The project includes the construction of 18km long sewage pipes, 3km long square culverts and 423 manholes. The Project applies to all five Municipalities located within the boundaries of the Sewerage Board of Limassol – Amathus.
The construction works will start immediately and it is expected to be completed in approximately 30 months.
The Project is an important step in the planning for a complete flood prevention for Greater Limassol and along with the other major projects that Sewerage Board of Limassol – Amathus has already scheduled to start, it is expected to contribute substantially to the elimination of the flood problem in Limassol. The Contract was signed by the President of Sewerage Board of Limassol – Amathus, the Mayor of Limassol Mr. Nikos Nikolaides and the representative of the Contractors’ Consortium Mr. George Iakovou in the presence of the city authorities, representatives of the appropriate government services and other public and private bodies of Limassol.
