The program “Social Work on the Road” of the Municipality of Limassol has been established in 2010 and is a proactive community intervention program.
Initially, the interventions aimed at preventing juvenile delinquency and the support and motivation of young people with the help of a social worker in neighbourhoods and places where young people gather.
Social Assistance for young people
A set of actions and events were carried out within the framework of this program, with the active participation of a great number of young people such as:
Game competitions - skateboard, backgammon etc.
Concerts promoting positive messages from young people
Workshops on developing social skills in parks
Information and interconnection with other support services
Other alternative, productive and beneficial activities
Social assistance and counselling
Support on employment issues
Free group discussion sessions
Experiential workshops and individual counselling at night school (junior high – high school) to assist young people with continuous education
Experiential workshops on preventing substance abuse in primary and secondary schools
The actions of the program are reviewed every six months depending on the intervention area and priorities. The program maintains close cooperation with various infrastructures and services, and implements common social interventions such as the “Odysseus” Counselling Station.
Since last year, the program mediates and handles cases of homeless and vulnerable adults

Integration of Immigrants
Since 2013, this program has been implementing actions targeting immigrants – Third Country Nationals (TCN) as part of the “Limassol - one city, the whole world” project, where two social workers intervene in communities to provide social assistance to TCNs and enhance the sense of belonging and acceptance of diversity.
Social workers carry out social interventions at TCN gathering points, offering social assistance and counselling, organising educational activities/ excursions and implementing experiential workshops.
Social Interventions in Schools
Within the framework of the “Limassol - one city, the whole world”” project, a social worker has been place since 2016 in three elementary schools in Limassol. The social worker implements experiential workshops aimed at developing social skills, resolving disagreements, managing emotions and cultivating a sense of belonging and acceptance of diversity. At the same time, co-operation with families is being pursued and home visits are being carried out to provide social assistance to families. Social workers maintain close co-operation with school authorities and teachers of the children concerned in order to help them tackle any possible difficulties that might arise.
Partner schools in this project are the 4th, the 6th and the 7th primary schools.
The program is funded by the Social Welfare Services of the Ministry of Labour, Welfare and Social Insurance, while it was also previously funded from the Cyprus National Addictions Authority.
The actions relating to Third-Country Nationals are part of the “Limassol - one city, the whole world” project and are funded by the Asylum Migration and Integration Fund by 90% and by the Republic of Cyprus by 10%.
