STATIC SYSTEM – MATERIALS

The various level and tier infrastructure building is made of reinforced concrete. Because of the symmetrical construction on all levels but also the symmetrical internal partition, huge antiseismic walls are placed in both sides, which in combination with the subcolumns and the beams that are put at the suitable place, the antiseismic quality of the project is ensured owing precisely to this static system.
The wavy roof of the Press Centre and the Palais de Sports is from metal and has 6 trusses openings measuring 55m and iron structure cellular curves measuring 10m – 18m that are ready-supplied by the manufacturer. The large trusses up to 3m are double forming an air-inlet corridor through which the cable system of the projectors and the loudspeakers etc pass. Because of the large openings of the Palais de Sports, an O.I.W. cover the trusses and the cellular iron structures on a perimeter level and also on four big columns. The structures and gradients will be invested with stone from the area.

AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM

The four machine rooms at the four corners of the Palais de Sports filter the conditioned air in the four large Sport Rooms and the adjoining dressing rooms; ventilators, which climb up to the roof corners ensure the air-conditioning in the mezzanine occupied by funs and the gymnasium. The coolers are placed at the eastern edge of the north side.

ROOM CAPACITY – DIMENSIONS OF THE PLAYING FIELD

The room has a capacity of 6255 seated spectators and besides at least 42 seats for persons on rolling seats. 216 luxurious VIPs’ seats are included in the above-mentioned capacity as well as 1000 folding seats. 72 special seats for the journalists involved in writing press articles. The capacity is estimated on the basis of a 50cm distance among the seats to bring about flexibility regarding the choice of the type seat. The average distance is normally 46cm. The distances of the playing field are clearly 51m x 31m until the tiers start and 51m x 39m when the folding tiers are closed.

CONNECTION MAINLY TO THE POLEMIDIA PARK

The remaining field connection to the traffic island at the west of the Palais de Sports space bound with the access street and particularly to the Polemidia Park’s, is ensured via an underground crossing. The same traffic island is situated at a lower level of the access street by the entrance of the Palais de Sports resulting to the underground crossing being the ideal solution. Its dimensions are 3,5m x 2,5m and are likely to be used in case of emergency by a Service vehicle.
The pedestrian road after the underground crossing with a 10% upwards slope ends to the middle green space in the parking places where various bays with benches are created while the existing trees are conserved as well as possible and a tree line is generated on each side of the sidewalk. The pedestrian road, which is used for the spectators’ access from the parking places to the Palais de Spors ends therefore to the main Polemidia park.
