Speech by the Mayor of Limassol, Mr. Andreas Christou, at the opening of Carlo Joaillier jewelry shop, on Saturday, June 21st, at 19.00 hours, 13 Constantinos Paparigopoulos street
Ladies and gentlemen
I would like to thank everybody for their presence today for the opening of a new and very special shop in our city, the retail outlet of Mr Carlo Joaillier, which will offer Italian high quality goods of well known brands.
The main brand is the one of Mr Carlo Palmiero whom I would like to welcome personally and thank him for his decision to be with us tonight.
Our city Limassol was and remains, despite the difficulties we face, the business centre of Cyprus and the power plant of the national economy.
Limassol is the headquarters of thousand of international companies and the biggest centre of shipmanagement in the European Union and the fourth all over the world.
25% of our population consists of people with their origin in Europe, Middle and Far East and even America. We are proud for the very important cosmopolitan and multicultural character of our city which is one of our advantages.
Despite the financial problems in Cyprus and world wide the major projects of private, public and municipal sector have secured financial support and are on their track.
Just two days ago we celebrated the official opening of the Limassol Marina, which is the biggest project, with €400 million cost, since the establishment of the Republic of Cyprus.
We are looking forward for better days which definitely will come. I am sure that the new shop will attract hundreds of buyers and will contribute to the revival of the commercial life of our city.
We owe special thanks and appreciation to Anastasia and Ermos Doritis for their support and efforts for the today's opening.
Our thanks to the director Mr Nicolas Ioannou for his kind invitation and our best wishes for success and prosperity.
