Address by the Mayor of Limassol, Mr Andreas Christou at the inauguration of the Olympic Residences, on Wednesday, October 24th, 2012
Distinguised guests dear friends
It is with great pleasure that we have gathered here to celebrate the inauguration of this important project completed where the ETKO factory used to be located in the past, at the seafront, opposite one of the most crowded beaches of our town, being linked to the main building through a bridge for public use.
It has been the first high building constructed so far, which turns to advantage the incentives for providing public parking places, ensuring, therefore, their functioning in this context. I have no doubt that it will become an undeniable example for future development activities.
Limassol is already a cosmopolitan city, where the presence of hundreds of international maritime and financial companies is intensely felt. We are sure that they will experience a rapid growth, as a result of the exploitation of natural gas and hydrocarbons found in the Cyprus EEZ (exclusive economic zone).
The same is valid for our fellow citizens who come from Member States of the European Union, as well as citizens of other countries all over the world generally, being an integral part of our town’s population and participating actively in the economic, social and cultural life of Limassol.
Our Municipality welcomes and supports the big important projects undertaken by the private sector in our town.
These projects with the big investments and the works under construction financed by the Cohesion Fund and the EU Structural Funds, the Municipality, the Sewerage Board of Limassol and the State of a total sume of 1 billion euros, enhance indeed the economy and help a more beautiful, functional and hospitable town to come up.
The projects along the coastal zone of the town, the marina, the old port, the sewerage system being extended towards the northern areas of Limassol and the suburbs, the new port being extended too, the passengers terminal, the highway network around and towards the new port, the expenses for the construction of which exceed the 1 billion euros, are also to be considered. Their financing is already granted and their implementation is proceeding smoothly.
I would like to congratulate this project’s developers N. G. Olympic Residence Ltd, the managing director and good friend of Limassol, Mr Tal Moskif, as well as the vice president Mr Demetris Tsaggaras for the spirit of collaboration and the good understanding.
Furthermore, I express my gratitude to the architects, engineers, contractors, sub-contractors, technicians and workers for their excellent job done in the building delivered today.
I wish the owners – buyers all the best and to enjoy their apartments and shops, profiting by the so many further various options for entertaining, recreation and cultural events provided by our town.
