Lemesos Municipality gladly welcomes new couples that wish to join their lives with a civil wedding.

The new Wedding Hall of the Municipality can organize your wedding with the simplicity and elegance that will make the most important day of your life truly special, leaving a lasting impression to you and your guests.

The Hall can host up to 50 guests, while you will have the freedom to choose the flower decoration and organize your space according to your ceremony’s personal preferences.  After all, this day belongs to you and it should be as unique as you are.

NOTES OF THE PROCEDURE FOLLOWED AS REGARDS THE CONTRACTING A CIVIL MARRIAGE IN CYPRUS

Persons desiring to have their marriage in Cyprus, under the provisions of the Marriage Law Cap. 2003, shall apply personally to the Marriage Officer of the Municipality of their choice in order to go through certain formalities which are necessary prior to their marriage.

These formalities are:

  • TO GIVE NOTICE OF MARRIAGE
  • TO APPLY FOR A SPECIAL LICENCE

In the case of NOTICE, the marriage cannot be celebrated before the lapse of 15 clear days from the date given and therefore the parties to the marriage have to stay in Cyprus for at least 20 days.

In case of urgency, however, the parties to the marriage may apply to the marriage Officer for a SPECIAL LICENCE, which allows them to marry the next day the minimum but first the parties must apply personally to the Municipality of their choice.

If either party of the intended marriage, not being a widower or a widow, is under 18 years of age, the written consent of the father, or if he is dead or incapable of consenting of the other, or if both are dead or incapable of consenting of the lawful guardian of such party, must be produced to the Marriage Officer before he issues a certificate or before grants the Special Licence.

The parties may choose to have their marriage celebrated either by the Marriage Officer at his office or upon the Marriage Officer's permission by a Registered Minister of Religion at his church.

The parties should be in possession of legal identification and travel documents i.e. passports.

Finally, they should be in possession of evidence that they are free to marry, such a confirmation from the competent authority of their country, ie the Civil Registry Offices of the Ministry of Internal / Foreign Affairs - Municipalities - Embassies etc, legal divorce certificated in cases of divorces, certificates of death in cases of widowhood. Original or certified true copies of certificates are required.

These must be written or translated in Greek or English and certified by the competent authority or Embassy.

FEES

  • For a normal civil wedding €128,15
  • For a swift civil wedding the fee is €281,92 

A True Certified Copy of the Marriage Certificate can be obtained from the Limassol Municipality or from the Ministry of Interior for a fee of  €13,65
