Dance Event: Momentum
July 3, 2011
Rialto Theatre, Limassol, Cyprus Limassol Municipal Dance Center
For the past four years, the students of the Limassol Municipal Dance Centre perform publicly along with invited guest artists from major ballet companies which in the past have included The Royal Danish Ballet and the English National Ballet. This July, soloists of the Dresden Semperoper Ballet Arika Togawa and Maximilian Genov have accepted an invitation to perform at this annual dance event. It is of major importance as is the first time that world renowned William Forsythe's masterpieceIn the Middle Somewhat Elevated duet will be performed in Cyprus. The soloist will also dance the wedding pas de deux from the ballet Coppelia.
The students which range in age from 9 to adult will dance in two new ballets by Director Lambros Lambrou. Concerto with music by Emerson, Lake and Palmer was originally choreographed in Canada in 1988 will feature the advanced students who train daily at the Centre.
The other ballet is choreographed to a variety of composers and the story follows the adventures of badly behaving bees, silly butterflies and various characters who work in the Municipal Gardens. This ballet is a comedy in which the young performers can reveal their considerable dancing and acting skills.
Founded in 2006 under the artistic direction of Lambros Lambrou the Municipal Dance Centre has steadily achieved national and international status. Students receive daily training in preparation for a professional career in dance. Successful students have already participated in summer schools abroad including The English National Ballet School, Arts Educational School, The Royal Ballet School and American Ballet Theatre School in Los Angeles.
This summer several of our students have received invitations to further their training at the International Summer School in Dresden under the direction of Marina Antonova dancer and teacher at the Palucca Schoolin Dresden, Germany.
The performance will take place on the 3rd of July.
